Through Highs & Lows: The LLA Story
When Light & Life Academy was established in 2001, it was the first institute of its kind in India. It was built at a time when formal photography education in the country was very limited, and the idea of a dedicated academy for professional photography was still new. To build something like this in Ooty, away from the usual centres of the industry, took belief, courage, and a long view of what photography education could become.
Twenty five years later, that idea has grown into an institution that has nurtured generations of image makers.
The journey has never been a straight line. There were times that brought immense pride. There were also times that tested the institution and the people behind it. Through it all, LLA has continued to grow.
Here’s a film that traces the journey of LLA from an idea to India’s Premier Photography institute.
As we mark the 25 year milestone, our deepest gratitude goes to everyone who has been part of the LLA journey.
To the Akkas and Annas who have cared for this campus and its students, to the faculty and mentors who have guided generations of photographers, to the sponsors and well-wishers who believed in LLA when very few did, and to every student who walked through these doors and became part of the LLA family: Thank You!
Twenty five years is a milestone that fills us with pride, but above all, it is a moment of gratitude.
Here’s to the journey so far, and to everything still to come.
