For Advanced Amateurs / Hobby Photographers, Practising Professional Photojournalists and students of Visual and Mass Communication, LLA offers short duration intensive workshops in specific areas of interest. The workshops cover Fundamentals of Creative Photography, Nature, Travel, Digital Capture & Post-Production, Digital Photojournalism and more. The accent here is on ‘hands-on’ training.

There will be lectures, slide shows, demos and shooting sessions every day. From day two of the workshop, images from the previous day will be critiqued and feedback given, which means action packed sessions that ensure fast and continuous learning.

This workshop is designed to offer the participant inputs that will help decode the three basic elements; light, colour & composition, that combine in myriad of ways, to create a memorable image.

Get Creative

With digital technology, understanding the technical and creative aspects of photography has been made very easy. And to do this in the inspiring environs of Ooty, where the light is truly magical and the people friendly, is an experience to cherish.

The topics covered will be:

1) Understanding the potential of the camera and lens and discovering ways and means of controlling perspective, with manipulation of shutter and aperture.
2) Study how the camera can interpret a point of view, by selecting, isolating and including elements in our field of vision.
3) Aspects of light and appreciation of how it impacts an image.
4) Study how lines, shapes, forms and texture can give a 3D feel to an image
5) Photoshop fundamentals: downloading, re-sizing, editing and tips on essential tools.

Methodology:

A mix of lectures, slide shows, field trips, feedback sessions and discussions will be used to give a hands-on feel of the possibilities of creative vision.

Equipment:

DSLR camera. Wide to medium lens (18 – 55mm, or 18 – 135mm on a cropped frame camera & 28 – 70mm, or 28 – 200mm on a full-frame camera. Optional – 70 – 200mm lens). Tripod. Extra CF cards, Laptop with Photoshop loaded.

Digital Black & White Photography

Black & white photography has an appeal all its own. With digital technology, this enthralling area of photography has become easily accessible. You can create your own black & white images with complete control over the entire process.

Creating black and white images in a place like Ooty, where the light is truly magical, can be a soul satisfying experience.

Topics covered:

1) Seeing colours in black & white and getting the exposure right.
2) Photographing different subjects in colour and transforming them to black & white in post-production.
3) Study the play of light on forms and textures and on colours.
4) Learning to control the contrast and intensity of light.
5) Experiment with doing portraits, landscapes and streetscapes in black & white.
6) Printing in black & white.

Methodology:

A mix of lectures, slide shows, hands-on photography, field trips, feedback sessions and discussions will be used to help you discover the magic of black & white photography.
